- Blackheads/comedo: “Comedo” is simply the medical term for blackheads, which are caused by blocked pores in your skin. The pore is plugged with sebum, the oil produced naturally by the glands in your skin. There’s also dead skin cells and debris from the surface mixed in.
- Epidermoid cysts: Although these cysts often look like sebaceous cysts, they aren’t the same. These bumps beneath the skin are non-cancerous and caused by epidermis skin cells that go deeper into the skin instead of shedding away from the skin. This type of cyst can also be caused by damage to a part of the hair follicle. Sebaceous cysts develop in the oil glands.
