What is PRP and Micro-needling?

Fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scars, and stretch marks–these common skin conditions are stubborn, sometimes impossible to cosmetically improve. Where chemical peels or medical-grade facials have failed to repair the skin’s surface, a Microneedling/PRP combination therapy may be the right treatment for you!

A sterile pen tip consisting of microneedles is expertly administered across the surface of the affected area. This pen creates minor traumas to the skin which stimulates the body’s natural supply of collagen and elastin growth. Collagen production is responsible for structural support to skin cells for lending a smoother, more youthful looking apperance. PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma–a concentrated substance in the blood that aides in wound healing. Used simultaneously with microneedling and this treatment becomes one of the most effective procedures for skin resurfacing.

What to expect from a microneedling/PRP treatment:

Patients are numbed with a topical anesthetic one hour prior to the procedure to eliminate discomfort. A small blood draw is required to extract the PRP that is applied topically to the skin in conjunction with microneedling. Following the treatment–redness, swelling, and peeling are reported as common side effects although every skin type may react differently. Patients typically notice an immediate glow following the procedure but significant results are observed 2-4 weeks following the treatment. It is advisable to schedule 4-6 sessions of microneedling/PRP for optimum results.
